Georgia Pecan Commission Garners National Media Coverage
To support the 2011 fall pecan harvest, the Georgia Pecan Commission has launched health-focused promotional and educational programs. The Commission has recently garnered national television and print coverage to educate consumers about the high content of antioxidants in pecans.
AntioxiNUT Advisory Board member Carolyn O'Neil, M.S., R.D., recently appeared on Daytime, a nationally syndicated talk show based in Tampa, FL. O'Neil talked about recipe resolutions and to enjoy more, not less, food and flavor in 2012. She prepared three recipes, including Avocado, Grapefruit Salad with Grapefruit Vinaigrette and Toasted Pecans, Savory and Spicy Toasted Pecans, and Peach and Blueberry Pecan Crisp.
During February, O'Neil also appeared on CBS News in Atlanta, GA to share the health benefits of delicious Georgia Pecans and how to create healthy twists on classic Southern recipes, like Crispy Georgia Pecan Baked Chicken and Peach Blueberry Cobbler with Georgia Pecans.
Also in February, registered dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner appeared on WCIU-TV's You & Me, a morning talk show based in Chicago, IL with an estimated 2 millions viewers, to create a heart smart Valentine's Day meal featuring a tasty Orange, Mint and Georgia Pecan Salad, and to stress the importance of antioxidant rich foods, like Georgia Pecans.
The Georgia Pecan Commission was also recently featured in the Atlanta Journal Constitution in their healthy Super Bowl piece. At its current size, the Atlanta Journal Constitution has the 13th largest Sunday circulation among U.S. newspapers. Taste of the South magazine also featured the Georgia Pecan Commission's recipe for Poppy-Seed Pecan Bread in their special collector's issue for southern cakes.
Lastly, Relish magazine, with more than 45,000 readers, posted on the Georgia Pecan Commission's Facebook page thanking us for our 40 different recipes.
